The 5G is knocking on the door

by Marko Merenheimo September 4, 2019

The discussion around “5G” makes us expect that our lives will change in many ways when the new radio networks are operational. We would consume more streamed content, would see new internet-based services, life would become safer, smarter and more efficient. And in the end, we all would be happier than ever before.

The 5G user experience expectation is huge. We want everything in “real-time”.

Vodafone is launching their 5G network in New Zealand in October 2019 promising 20ms or less latency in the RAN (Radio Access Network).

And Spark NZ is in the game too. In August they published a briefing paper that outlines how it is on track to start providing 5G services to New Zealand consumers and businesses from 2020.

But the RAN is only a part of the truth. In 5G radio networks, the cell size is significantly smaller than in 4G networks, which means that the density of BTSs (Base Station) will increase. Every BTS require power and data connection.

Hexatronic has recently introduced “InOne” solution, which can connect devices to power and fibre network with a single micro-hybrid cable. One can blow the cable into an existing micro duct infrastructure.

Hexatronic InOne

A 5G FWA deployment involves the complexity of planning and optimising the radio access network coverage, fibre access network and power network connections. InOne combines two networks into one which reduces the complexity and total cost substantially.

The Hexatronic InOne is a complete system consisting of all components needed for a safe end-to-end solution to transmit power and data. The system elements are power rectifier, power and fibre termination panels, air-blown hybrid cable and power receiver unit with a PoE (Power Over Ethernet) capable switch.

In addition to powering and feeding data to 5G  radio access network, the InOne solution is suitable for applications like WLAN access points, Smart Cities, IoT and surveillance systems, to name a few.

We have a “full demo” available at the plant in Porirua and are happy to tell more about this solution.
